The placement board.

A 9:16 reel is a minefield of platform UI. These diagrams show exactly where faces, hooks and captions survive — green is yours, red belongs to the app.

Placement — where things live on a reel

Based on a 1080×1920 frame: 220px top, 420px bottom, 180px sides belong to the platform.

The Safe Zone

On a 1080×1920 reel, platform UI eats the edges: keep everything inside 220px from the top, 420px from the bottom, 180px each side — a 720×1280 box.

Golden Point — Upper

The upper golden-ratio line sits at y≈733 of 1920. Eyes and faces land here naturally — the strongest single spot on a vertical frame.

Golden Point — Lower

The lower golden line at y≈1187. Put the product or payoff here; it reads second, after the face.

Center Stack

Reels law: everything on the vertical centreline (x=540). Off-centre dies on small screens; centred survives every crop.

Hook Zone

The top band just under the safe margin (y≈220–520) is where hook text lives — visible even on the feed preview.

Caption Zone

Captions sit at y≈1200–1500. NEVER below 1500 — the bottom 420px belongs to the platform's own UI.

UI Danger — Bottom

The bottom 420px: username, caption, sounds, progress bar. Anything you place there is furniture behind furniture.

UI Danger — Right Rail

The right edge (~180px, mid-frame) is the like/comment/share stack. Faces and text there get buried under buttons.

Thirds Grid 9:16

The vertical thirds grid: horizon on a line, subject on an intersection. The safe default when golden feels fussy.

Headroom & Look Room

A palm of space above the head; if the subject looks sideways, give them room to look into. Crowded heads read amateur.
